This is handy because you could run one bidirectional motor and two relays using just 4 Arduino pins and a single L293. Name * Last Name E-mail * A valid e-mail address. Motor drivers act as current amplifiers since they take a low-current control signal and provide a higher-current signal. You can use the L293 to drive relays and solenoids. http://vinaprosoft.com/motor-driver/l293-secret-motor-driver.php

H-bridges can be built from scratch with bi-polar junction transistors (BJT) or with field effect transistors (FET), or can be purchased as an integrated unit in a single integrated circuit package Hook up the circuit and run your motor while keeping your finger on the chip. Runs at 5V logic.
The L293 is simplest and inexpensive for low current motors, For high current motors, it is less expensive to build your own H-bridge from scratch. Any input?cia-21 (author)Reply2016-04-03Hey, can I make a variable speed driver with L293D?hiponiaE (author)Reply2016-03-12Hello about the L293D motor IC what are the other replacement for it.? Similarly, when the enable input is low, that driver is disabled, and their outputs are off and in the high-impedance state. TIP: Don’t Exceed the Vmax Voltage of 36 volts or it will cause damage. This wont work well for 3V motors. That would be really helpful.cia-21 (author)Reply2016-04-03Hey, can I make a variable speed driver with L293D?PramêshB1 (author)cia-21Reply2017-03-02Yeah, using analogwrite instead of digitalwrite & assigning valuesS.S4 (author)Reply2017-01-15Hi. http://www.rakeshmondal.info/L293D-Motor-Driver When I check the current flowing through a single motor with a multimeter, it peaks at about 80mA for the given script and upwards of 160mA with continuous use.
Shouldn't the pins be 2,7,10 and 15 for inputs?codebender_cc (author)DklawzReply2015-08-15Hello, no need it because by default all pins are inputs ;)JeremyG1 (author)Reply2015-08-04Great instructable! Each motor takes 3 Arduino pins. (See notes below for a two Arduino pin solution.) If you are only using one motor, leave L293 pins 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, https://www.amazon.com/NDRTJM-MSTL2930-L293D-Stepper-Driver/dp/B008XCGLNM Skip to main content RON ROBOTICS A personal website for Microcontrollers, Robotics, electronics and much more. L293D is a 16-pin IC which can control a set of two DC motors simultaneously in any direction. his comment is here So I decided to make a PCB board to reduce the number of wire :), I will share this Instructable soon thanks to you.Cheers from Canada Liamthe1st (author)Reply2015-08-17I am a in The L293 ground goes to both the battery minus and the Arduino GND. They do handle a peak of 1.2A but that's just for a short amount of time. L293d Arduino

The L293 has an automatic thermal shutdown which means the chip will stop working if it gets too hot. Small dc motors are usually 5~9V.
